Troubleshooting

If you continue to experience problems despite following the suggestions below, please contact self-assessment@nc3rs.org.uk.

Issues with browser zoom:

Ensure that the zoom in your browser is set to 100%. For instructions on how to do this, consult the user guides listed below for your browser:

  • Google Chrome – support.google.com
  • Firefox – support.mozilla.org
  • Internet Explorer 11 – windows.microsoft.com

If you experience problems accessing the site in Safari, check that the URL is https and not http, i.e. https://3rsselfassessment.nc3rs.org.uk

System requirements:

The 3Rs self-assessment tools should be used with a minimum screen resolution of 1024px, but ideally with any resolution greater than 1920px. We recommend using the latest stable release of any major browser to access them. For the best user experience, the tools should be used on a laptop or desktop computer, rather than a tablet or mobile telephone.

Incomplete registration of a lead-user:

The registration process for lead-users contains several steps:

1) Go to link
2) Select whether registering for the Research Group Tool or Research Institution Tool.

Research Group Tool:

3) Enter email address.
4) Confirm that you are not a robot by solving a Google CAPTCHA.
5) The webpage displays a notification confirming that your account registration was sent.
6) Receive the validation email within minutes.
7) Open the email and click on the account validation link.
8) The 3Rs self-assessment tool page will open and prompt you to enter a password and username.

Research Institution Tool:

3) Fill in the registration form.
4) Confirm that you are not a robot by solving a Google CAPTCHA.
5) The webpage displays a notification confirming that your account registration was sent.
6) The form is received by the NC3Rs, who will validate your details.
7) You will receive a validation email.
8) Open the email and click on the account validation link.
9) The 3Rs self-assessment tool page will open and prompt you to enter a password and username.

Some users may experience issues with receiving the password reset email, generally due to one of two reasons: the email was caught in your institution’s spam filter, or the email address provided was incorrect. Please check your spam or junk folder, along with the emails quarantined by your institution. If it does not appear, try re-registering, ensuring that your email address is spelled correctly. If your email address is correct but you still do not receive a validation email from self-assessment@nc3rs.org.uk, ask your local IT support to whitelist this address. If you are still unable to validate your account, please contact self-assessment@nc3rs.org.uk for support.

Incomplete registration of a sub-user:

The registration process is as follows:

1) The lead-user will input the sub-user’s email address into the system.
2) The webpage displays a notification confirming that the invite was sent to the sub-user.
3) The sub-user receives an automated email invite within minutes.
4) The sub-user opens the email and clicks on the account validation link.
5) The 3Rs self-assessment tool page will open and prompt the sub-user to enter a password and username.

Some users may experience issues with receiving the account registration email, generally due to one of two reasons: the email was caught in your institution’s spam filter, or the email address provided was incorrect. You should check your spam or junk folder, along with the emails quarantined by your institution. If the account registration email is not found, your lead-user should double-check their account to ensure that the email address provided was correct and issue a new invite if necessary. If the email address is correct but you still do not receive a validation email from self-assessment@nc3rs.org.uk, you should ask their local IT support to whitelist this address. If you are still unable to validate your account, please contact self-assessment@nc3rs.org.uk for support.

Unwanted invite of a sub-user

If a lead-user supplies the wrong email address, this may lead to an individual incorrectly receiving an email invite to become a sub-user. There may also be instances where an individual correctly receives an invite but declines to become a sub-user. In both these cases, there are two options to resolve the issue.

1) The lead-user can manually delete the sub-user from the account.
2) The invited individual can ignore the email invite, in which case their account activation link will time out after 7 days and their email address will be deleted from the system.

Reset password email not received

Some users may experience issues with receiving the password reset email, generally due to one of two reasons: the email was caught in your institution’s spam filter, or the email address provided was incorrect. You should first ensure that you have provided the correct email address as the system will not alert you if you enter incorrect details. If the correct details have been provided, you should check your spam or junk folder, along with the emails quarantined by your institution. If the reset password email from self-assessment@nc3rs.org.uk is not found, you should ask your local IT support to whitelist this address. If problems persist, please contact self-assessment@nc3rs.org.uk for support.
